About Joshua Kays

Who am I?

I could say that I am an aspiring software engineer or that I am deeply passionate about coding and technoloygy. However, that is not what I am about or who I am as a person. My name is Joshua Kays, and I am the youngest son in my family. I am also the brother to 3 older brothers and a older and younger sister who I lover very much. I am first and foremost someone who enjoys to learn about things and really explore why or how things work. My interests sometimes feel extremely vast but, other times I feel like there is a common thread that connects them all even if it may only make sense to me. I feel like I am always wanting to learn more and take in as much as possible. Something that has grown within me over time is the idea that my perspective is so limited and that it should expand. I have seen the small world I knew most of my life explode when I joined the army and was introduced to new people and cultures.

It changed again when I made the choice to put my mental health and well-being first and resigned from a postion that I use to love. I moved out of the United States and lived in Medellin, Colombia for 3 months. I was prepared to stay longer and felt that the community and culture had changed me in ways I couldn't explain. Since that time I have found that many people that I come into contact with show me how I have changed. I have been witness to communities that have little and less than I have had my entire life. Yet, they were some of the happiest and most innovative people I will probably ever meet.

I got a rare opportunity to see what it truly means to go after your dreams and take the painfully slow steps to creating the reality you desire. I am a man who has been inspired to take the lessons I have learned in life and exemplify them in how I work and the way I live. When it comes to whatever I do or create when I work on a project I want to always think about how I can be more inclusive and accessible to the diverse communities this profession should serve.
